CompassDuo
Privacy notice
CompassDuo is provided by Jacob Marshall under the River City Apps brand. This notice describes information used by the app and, separately, information processed when you visit this website or contact support.
Information used by the app
CompassDuo processes camera imagery, compass heading, location, altitude, and motion information locally on your device to provide its navigation instruments and recording features. Elevation information uses available location and barometric measurements.
The app does not require an account. It has no sign-in, advertising, analytics SDK, third-party crash-reporting SDK, cloud synchronization, or app-operated server connection.
Local storage and system backups
Saved sighting photographs and associated records are stored in CompassDuo’s private on-device library. Saved bearings are also stored locally.
CompassDuo marks its private sighting library and saved-bearing files for exclusion from system backups. Backup exclusion is a request to the operating system and cannot be guaranteed. Preferences and calibration settings may be included in ordinary system backups.
Export photographs you want to retain before deleting the app. Exported copies are managed separately by the destination you choose.
Photograph export and sharing
Photographs are exported or shared only at your direction. Exports are newly rendered PNG images. CompassDuo does not copy the original photograph’s EXIF or GPS metadata into those exports, and it does not embed its internal sensor records or coordinates as PNG metadata.
Exports contain ordinary image properties, such as dimensions and color information. Shared filenames include a sighting identifier. When saving to Apple Photos, CompassDuo sets the photograph’s creation date to the original sighting capture time but does not assign an asset location.
Selected overlays can visibly display bearing, compass markings, reticle, level, altitude, altitude accuracy, pressure, and relative altitude. This information remains visible to anyone receiving the exported image, even though it is not embedded as sensor metadata.
Apple Photos, iCloud, and other destinations
CompassDuo does not automatically export photographs to Apple Photos. Photographs you choose to export there are governed by your Photos and iCloud Photos settings. Shared content is handled by the recipient or destination service under its own practices.
Apple’s operating-system services, permissions, and system backups operate separately from CompassDuo and are subject to Apple’s settings and policies. See Apple’s privacy policy.
Accounts and local information
CompassDuo has no account creation, authentication, server-backed identity, or account-deletion requirement. Jacob Marshall does not receive your private app library through an app-operated server. You control whether to export or share its contents.
Support correspondence
When you contact support@rivercityapps.com, Jacob Marshall receives your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. This information is used to respond to your request and troubleshoot issues. Support email is hosted and processed by Apple’s iCloud Mail, separately from the app’s on-device operation.
Messages are retained while an issue is open. Resolved conversations are generally deleted within 12 months after resolution, unless needed for an ongoing dispute or legal obligation. You may request deletion by emailing the same address. Apple may retain residual copies according to its own retention practices.
This website
This website is hosted by Cloudflare Pages. Website visits are separate from CompassDuo’s local processing. Cloudflare may process technical request information, such as IP addresses, requested URLs, and browser or device information, to deliver and protect the website.
The website’s pages do not include advertising, embedded analytics scripts, contact forms, or third-party fonts. Hosting-level processing and any cookies used by enabled Cloudflare services are separate from the app. Cloudflare’s processing and retention are described in its privacy policy.
Changes to this notice
This notice may be updated when features or privacy practices change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
